Mostly self taught, Kehinde Peter Schulz is an artist who began painting when he was young, along with his twin brother, Taiwo Paul Schulz. After arriving in the United States, Kehinde mastered his technique and style while working for years as a layout artist and illustrator for News Watch magazine. Some of his paintings are now in private collections. Many paintings have been on display at both group and solo shows; one of them at a juried show at Cork Gallery, Lincoln Center, New York City. He now lives and paints in the Bronx, New York.

Artist’s Statement

"Painting itself is an experience. Art as an object is the end of the artist’s experience and the beginning of the audience experience. When the artist bids it goodbye, the audience welcomes it. While taking few classes in life (figure) painting at the National Academy of Design, School of Fine Arts, New York City, I felt the urge to go in a different direction. Semi-abstract painting has always interested me. I developed more than one style and worked to perfect them. My idea was to use lines, sharp edges and colors intensively in harmonious abstract fields with a palette of lights and shades to increase spatial depth and contrasts. This explains the long and short lines that are pronounced in my works. Forms can be seen to emerge between darkness and light."
